Natural Toothache Remedies

Nowadays at the first sign of toothache or tooth pain a dentist is sought out. How did our great-great-grandparents and our ancestors deal with tooth pain without the help of professionally trained dentists? Simple, they used natural and organic remedies. Such remedies have long existed and have been long used and practiced amongst all cultures prior to the popularization of western medicine. Such remedies are even practiced today in many parts throughout the world as well as among new-age spiritualists and herbalists in North America. Water and Non-Iodized Salt or Whiskey The first remedy for toothaches and tooth pain is a mixture of water and non-iodized salt. Usually only one to two tablespoons is necessary for every half cup of water. Simply mix the non-iodized salt into a glass of water and stir thoroughly. Once dissolved swish and spit repeatedly. The non-iodized salt works to prevent infection around the area of the tooth. Repeat this step three to five times daily for at least a few days. Another remedy that can be used as an alternative or in conjunction to the water and non-iodized salt remedy is the whiskey remedy. Simply swish and spit a small amount of whiskey as to help prevent additional infection around the tooth and to provide numbing relief from pain. Yogurt When toothaches and tooth pain occur it is usually really uncomfortable to eat solid foods. Fortunately however there are some foods that can be easily consumed that will cause no discomfort to teeth and will also provide beneficial bacteria. One such food is yogurt. Believe it or not yogurt is consistent with beneficial bacteria that work to ward off bacteria that may cause infection. No numbing solution is provided from yogurt however, it is easy on the teeth and safe to consume when teeth are in pain. Peppermint Leaves Peppermint leaves are one of the oldest remedies that provide comfort from toothache and tooth pain. All that is needed is a small amount of peppermint leaves. Simply take a small amount of peppermint leaves and directly apply them to the tooth experiencing pain and discomfort. Chew on the peppermint leaves for three to five minutes twice daily. The peppermint leaves will act as a medicinal herb as they are consistent with anti-inflammatory properties. Clove and Vanilla Extract Clove and vanilla extract are both a great way to providing pain relief and a numbing sensation to the tooth or teeth that are experiencing pain and discomfort. However, only a very small quantity of clove or vanilla extract should be used as too much is capable of causing permanent nerve damage. Simply take a small amount of clove or vanilla extract and apply to a Q-Tip. Apply the Q-Tip directly to the tooth or teeth. Allow the extract to wipe over the tooth and gums as to provide the most relief. As always if pain worsens immediately seek professional medical attention. However, if any of the age-old natural and organic remedies [...]

Alternatives for Bathroom Tissue Paper

One of the most important hygiene products known to modern-day mankind is bathroom tissue paper; or in other words toilet paper. This is because toilet paper is a product that is used by both men and women upwards of up to 4 maybe 5 times a day. Not to mention depending upon the thickness and even texture a lot of tissue paper may have to be used at one time. However there are a few techniques for not only reducing the amount of toilet paper needed at one time but how to maintain cleanliness without toilet paper altogether if the occasion were to ever occur. Here are some great natural and organic alternatives for bathroom tissue paper. Worth mentioning first are the simple techniques that may help to reduce the amount of toilet paper needed at one time. For example, by maintaining a healthy and proper diet individuals decrease the amount of toilet paper needed per use. This is because high amounts of fiber help to pass bowel movements without the need of much tissue paper much similar to how cats and dogs lack the need of tissue paper. Another technique to reduce the amount of tissue paper needed is the age-old tradition of squatting. For centuries mankind squatted during bowel movements but has discontinued this fashion due to modern-day latrine designs. In case the occasion were to occur and tissue paper is not available than using a cloth or type of rag will also work as an alternative. Strips of clothing will also work as well however they will need to be cleansed thoroughly after every use. Economically speaking washcloths, rags, and strips of clothing work great because they will last much longer in comparison to dissolvable tissue paper. A bidet, or European style toilet, is a new modern way of reducing the need for tissue paper and replacing it with water instead. Traditionally mankind has used water as an alternative to tissue paper if none were available and still does to this day. Thankfully due to the advancement in technology mankind now has the benefit of choosing the temperature of the water used through their bidet to aid for better comfort in retrospect to the old days. In some instances, such as during camping, strips of cloth, tissue paper, and even water may be scarce or nonexistent. If this occurs than there are various natural and organic alternatives that can be found throughout the forest and wilderness that will work in replacement. Some such alternatives are moss, corn, corn husks, and sticks and stones. If some items can be collected to be used as an alternative to tissue paper than the best items to use are strips of newspaper, coffee filters, pages from a phonebook, and even bills.   Sources: “Alternatives for Bathroom Tissue.” By Monica Dorsey http://www.ehow.com/list_6640039_alternatives-bathroom-tissue.html “If the SHTF, Make Sure You Have Toilet Paper!” By Tess Pennington http://readynutrition.com/resources/if-the-shit-is-going-to-hit-the-fan-make-sure-you-have-toilet-paper_04102009/ “Saving Your Butt During a Survival Situation: Alternatives to Toilet Paper.” By [...]
